dosdude1 @dosdude11d Replying to @danluu This is one of the many reasons I will NEVER own a car built within the last 15 years. Cars should NOT rely on ANY sort of software to function, outside of what is running on a basic fuel injection computer, and especially should not rely on or even have an Internet connection.

Dave Shanker @daveshanker. 1d Replying to @danluu That's nuts. You would think they would've made the update system to revert back to previous running version.

Madotsuki.eth (... ◊ @MagusDevon Follow Replying to @danluu My mother has a smart oven. I have no clue what the "smart" features are. I can only guess that some day even your stove and oven will require routine updates and maybe even a subscription service to use. $15 a month extra for the broiler pack. $10 for ventilation fan.

That's Interesting @innneresting. 1d Replying to @danluu I love this, and have saved this photo for posterity, because it validates everything I've ever said about why I would never buy a car that receives software updates.

lan Irwin Replying to @danluu Why are we just accepting this? This is terrible. Give me a 15 year old petrol car with actual physical buttons and switches any day. If there's an iPad in my car, it's showing Peppa Pig to keep my grandkids quiet. @Ian_A_Irwin 1d .

Jiikae @Jiikae .1d We are unironically getting to the point where technology from the late 90s and 00s was more futuristic and forward thinking than whats happening now

Paris Marx @parismarx. 23h as digital tech and internet connectivity get added to everything we use, often where it's not needed, all those products become less reliable and prone to becoming unusable much earlier than they ought to

jenny_tightpants @halomancer1 Follow this is giving me "printer won't print in black and white cuz there isn't enough magenta ink" kind of vibes. eventually your car won't start cuz you're running low on Company Brand wiper fluid

RiscV @MKVRiscy. 18h Teslas are overrated but at least they understand EVS are more a "computer on wheels" than a "car with a computer" Car makers have been half-assing software forever, historically that manifested only as awful media centers but now it means you can brick your car doing an update

eigenrobot @eigenrobot. 1d Tech Enthusiasts: Everything in my house is wired to the Internet of Things! I control it all from my smartphone! My smart-house is bluetooth enabled and I can give it voice commands via alexa! I love the future! Programmers / Engineers: The most recent piece of technology I own is a printer from 2004 and I keep a loaded gun ready to shoot it if it ever makes an unexpected noise. Security technicians: *takes a deep swig of whiskey* I wish I had been born in the neolith

Telefon Tel Aviv @telefontelaviv. 1d : Hot take: touch screens in cars are trash. Bad, dangerous UX with no feedback You have to look at it to use it Mechanical cars with mechanical gauges can't be bricked remotely by your dealer or carmaker times for automobiles We live in unless you're a millionaire
