When I was a kid, we adopted a schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle) who I named Lacy. She was THE most chill, laid back dog who let me pack her around on my hip, put her in my baby strollers, paint her nails and everything. However, she had major FOMO when it came to our other dog, Princess. When we'd call for Princess, Lacy would come running thinking someone was getting something she wasn't.. This went on for so long that Lacy completely stopped responding to her own name. She'd only come if we called

Fast forward several years, Princess was 16 and had to be put to sleep. Soon after, Lacy also stopped responding to Princess's name because she knew she wasn't there. So I sat down with her one day and just started throwing out any random woman name I could think of. Out of all the names, she only responded to "Lois". So at 7 years old she chose Lois as her new name and that's the name she kept until she joined Princess at age 15.

Mysterious-Art8838 1 day ago Beautiful story. I adopted a poodle at 16. She seemed to have a bunch of prior names per the shelter? Anyway I just figured clean slate, let's go with Mira (look in Spanish) and one day when I call her maybe she'll look at me. Good for training. Joke was on me, she was deaf. So mostly we just referred to her as 'the dog' since there was no point in calling her. I miss that fuzz ball. What a sweet dog she was.

beatrizklotz 22 hr. ago Nyx: Blue-Heeler Mix I have a weird little mutt with a crooked leg and barely any teeth (adopted him like that) and my dad started calling him handsome because "he needs an ego boost. We have to help his morale" Now whenever I call his name and he ignores me, he'll only respond to Handsome. Then he comes trotting up wagging his tail and smiling, all pleased with himself We created a monster. His ego is too big now

2woCrazeeBoys 18 hr. ago . My ex and I got a rescue dog. She was a mostly white, deaf American Bulldog. After tossing around names for a bit, we settled on Carwyn, Welsh for "fair and beautiful/white and lovely" (depending on the translation you looked at). After we had her for a while, my ex asked me to ask my Welsh friend if there was "a name that meant beige and lovely, cos she's never white." Forever after her name was Beigey.

Florideal 21 hr. ago Such a heart warming story of how dogs create some of the best memories in our lives. So sorry for your losses but Lois sounds like she still makes your heart smile when you think of her.

Gelatin_Belatin. 1 day ago When I want my very clingy chihuahua mix to come to me and he's not listening, I can call any of my other dogs' names, tell them how beautiful/sweet they are, and he comes running to me so fast. Because how dare I try to give any of the other dogs attention. He still responds to his actual name, though.
