Professional Home Inspector Goes Viral for Posting Videos of Inspecting Newly Flipped Homes and Showing Off Their Shoddy Handiwork

If you're wondering why that house that was going for $100k just a few years ago, but is now going for $400k+, even though it looks worse off, this is why. They're called “house flippers.” We're not talking about professional home renovators, we're talking about people who have no business doing handy work. Flippers can usually be easy to spot by anybody who has ever had a roof over their heads. But sometimes these flippers get sneaky in their ways of hiding broken or even dangerous handy work, and that is when professional house inspectors come in handy.

You would think that it is crazy for these “flippers” to think they could get away with selling a house with all these kinds of shoddy constructions, but they do it all the time. That is why it is very important to get a house professionally inspected by a trusted inspector before purchasing it. You could either find so many dangerous infractions, that you don't even want to buy the home anymore. Or, at the very least, the amount of shoddy handiwork found could drive the price of the home way down and you could save a lot of money.

“Flippy”

People are flocking to the videos to share their own experiences with flippers and also ask advice on what to do with their own “flipped” homes with poor construction. One person commented, “when I was buying a home we ALWAYS lost bets to a flipper. and we'd look at it later and the house was always ruined. when we sold we told our realtor no offers from flippers." Another said, “Flipping houses should require licenses and multiple inspections and high fines for not complying to code.”

Unfortunately, there aren't many laws preventing “flippers” from doing this kind of work—if they can get away with it, they will. It is driving the prices of homes up and many are disheartened by it and are even choosing not to sell to anyone who intends on flipping. (That being said, it's a different story if you're “flipping" the home to live in yourself, you do you. But these “flippers” are only buying homes to quickly flip and make a profit. They never live there and will usually only own the home for a month or so.)
