If you don't like when dogs come to greet you, being a mailman isn't the job for you. Historically, mailmen and dogs have always been nemesis. It's a dog's job to protect their humans from all number of potential threats, like delivery trucks, pizza delivery people, neighbors, children, and people taking walks. To a dog, if you walk by their home, you're automatically going to get barked at for a while. That pup's got to alert everyone in the home that someone's out there! Look! Then, their human goes to take a look out the window for the 50th time that day, only to tell the dog to shush, because it's just a grandmother walking her chihuahua. Makes no difference to your pet---they're thrilled they've protected the household.
This person shared that their mailman had an aversion to dogs that are making his job nearly impossible. Many mail workers carry treats in their pockets so that dogs associate positive rewards with them. Maybe this guy has never heard of that trick. It seems like it's a bigger issue than just u/CoupleTechnical6795's dog, however. Instead, it seems like he dislikes delivering to them at all. He keeps making up different reasons, but I do wonder if the OP is downplaying them. They write that they had an issue with their steps that the mailman claimed was unsafe. He's probably correct about that, no matter how much the OP protests.
You can check out the OP's mildly infuriating story below. Then, read about this worker who was spending 6 whole hours every day commuting.
