Many people are very protective of the names they plan for their kids. Some would keep those names a secret just so their friends and family won't steal them when they get the chance. I had a name I loved and always wanted to use for my future daughter and I didn't tell it to anyone. The problem was, my sister also loved the name, and since she didn't know it was an option for me, she used it for her daughter before I could. But of course, no hard feelings. And worst case, we could simply both use the name if we really wanted to. No one has ownership of any name out there.

I really wish the OP's sister in this Reddit story would have agreed. OP is taking care of her orphaned niece who goes by her middle name, 'Ann'. Now, OP's pregnant sister demands that everyone start calling the niece by her first name so that she can name her daughter 'Ann' as well. Didn't anyone hear about the saying - 'Sharing is Caring'?
