This was around 2000 or so. I was living in a pretty sweet two bedroom apartment right above where I was working at the time. My sister's boyfriend had recently moved to town and needed a place to stay. We were already kinda friends, so I gave him a bedroom. Rent was split but it was still my place overall.

He had a pretty annoying habit of making food, then eating it in his room and leaving the dirty dishes in there. I bugged him about it for a while until he finally started at least putting them in the sink (still dirty, but at least accessible) Eventually I got petty mad about this, and basically told him to clean the fing dishes. His reply? "That's not happening."

Ok then... For the whole time he'd been living there, he was allowed to use my computer (pretty bares gaming rig I had built) to check his emails and S'S After he said that garbage about the dishes, I had a lil idea. When he left for work that day, I hopped on the internet and found a free tiny program called Bootlocker. It basically locked the computer

with a black screen with a password prompt. No password, no computer. It even had an option to lock the bios so if the pc was rebooted, it would ask for the password before even booting. There was also an option to include some words below the password prompt. I chose "Clean dishes = checked email" Then I went about my day.

Needless to say, when I got home later (he finished work and was there before me) the dishes were clean but he was not happy. Poor widdle baby. Cue his revenge... He had a pretty fancy Sony tv that was in the living room. I had it hooked up to the computer so movies could be watched, games played etc on

the sweet big screen (32" was way bigger than my monitor lol). Plus we had free cable from work downstairs. After the Bootlocker thing, he thought he would get me back by activating the parental controls on his TV. I get home after work (he's not home) and go to watch some TV. No go without the 4 digit code.

Took me roughly two minutes online to find "what do I do if I forgot my Sony TV code" The look on his face when he got home and I was watching TV was fu g golden. He moved out not too long afterwards.

Sharchir 2d ago Wow! You have patience - I would have kicked him out when he said he wouldn't clean the dishes (unless he got his own to use) 134 134 Reply ↑ Share Round_Doughnut7793 • 2d ago Even if he had his own to use, never cleaning dishes is gross and could cause a bunch of problems for OP.. ↑ 61 ↓ Reply ↑ Share

jsmoo68. 2d ago See, my response would've been to put all the clean dishes in my room or under lock and key. Reply Share - Ⓒ + 11 ↓ ... Putrid_Culture_9289 OP • 1d ago Pretty sure if I had done that, he would have started grabbing paper plates from work (was a restaurant) and then they very likely would've been littered all over the flocking apartment. 48 Reply ↑ Share

Critical Lobster5609 • 1d ago Same time period as your story, I was living with a couple in their house. And my buddy and I got into a prank war. My buddy put BackOrifice (or w/e that was called) on my PC and was fing with me from his PC, turning keys off and on and other s. 't. So I went on his PC and did the screenshot of his desktop, hid his icons and made that his background. It took him forever to figure it out. So he did some s:t back to mine but put Bootlocker on it. But he didn't lock it

at the boot level from BIOS. Meaning Windows loaded, then bootlocker. He though he "won." I used my Dell discs to boot his Gateway, which puked on the idea, and somehow I got it to boot to a DOS prompt and from there I was able to lock his bios by password. I left and went to work. He called me at work. I made him cry uncle and he wouldn't. Hours later his GF called claiming to need to do homework on it. I made her make him cry uncle and the wor ended. 4 5 5 Reply ↑ Share

Ok_Difficulty_8203 • 1d ago Idk if it's just me or what but I feel like, it'd be bad enough just coming from a friend or an acquaintance through a mutual friend, but for it to be OP's sister's boyfriend makes it worse. She's his sister, you know she spent time there. Was she just ok with him living like a slob at her brother's place? Ⓒ 4 4 ↓ Reply Share
