'I am too important to wait in line': Sandwich shop employee defies customers' sneaky food hack

You ordered it for 15 minutes from now. That means 15 minutes.

I work in what is apparently the sole source of food in this town. We have lines out the door regularly.
  • 03
Recently we had an upsurge in remote orders. And people have been stepping out of the line and saying "I'm already here. Gimme my sandwich."
  • 04
We know why they're doing this: They think you will skip the line this way. When what this actually does is gum up the line for everyone else since they want us to drop what we are doing and make their food because "I am already here and I am too important to wait in line."
  • 05
But placing a remote order requires you to say it will be for at least 15-20 minutes later.
  • 06
So the next Foodening, we hear the remote order alert going off the hook. As if on cue, here come the Junior Karens of America who say the usual line: "I am already here. Just make the food".
  • 07
Well we tell them "Hold on, Karen F son? It says you will pick this up at 11:30. It's 11 now. We will have this ready in 30 minutes."
  • 08
A second line forms of people who think they have beaten the system only to find now we are enforcing pickup times. And some of these people find out that they end up waiting longer and now are getting in other peoples' way, causing them to miss their pickup times by a whole minute because they have to step over each other to get to the pickup section.

Hey that's when you ordered it to be picked up.

Knersus_ZA 2 yr. ago I do call in remote orders. Then usually I go to the shop next door to buy some groceries etc, and then I go and pick up my order. Simple as that.
  • 11
If the shop is busy, I'll wait my turn and ask for my order. If it is not ready, I leave the queue and wait on the side for my order # to be called. It's not rocket science. Just common sense and courtesy, that's all.

28 stumblewiggins. 2 yr. ago Sometimes I order food and they say "it will be ready at time x", and then it's actually ready at like, x - 15. That's almost equally annoying as having it be late (almost), because now my food is getting cold, soggy, etc.

My point is: thank you for enforcing pickup times. If I order online, get there early, and you are able to make it early, great. But if you can't, you can't. I appreciate when the stated time is the time it's ready. Thank you for your service

CoderJoel 2 yr. ago I can't tell you how many time I've placed remote orders via app or website only to find out the restaurant didn't notice the order until I got there to pick it up. This happens at several chain restaurants.

reader_012 2 yr. ago On the other hand when I show up when they said my food would be ready and I have to wait an extra 20 minutes even though people who walked in and ordered after I showed up are getting their food it's understandable to get annoyed.
