America is full of paradoxes and hypocrisies, and one of them is the term "Midwest." It's a term we bandy about often, and it conjures the same thing for most people: a collection of states full of corn fields, cheese, and people with an aw-shucks attitude. But is the Midwest actually in the mid-west? Based on looking at a map… not really. It's more mid-east than anything. Maybe it's a hangover from when America hadn't expanded that far west, so Illinois seemed pretty far over there. Or maybe we just have a looser definition of cardinal directions over here in the States. Most likely, it's a combination of both.
We're an idiosyncratic bunch, us Americans, and Midwesterners even more so. We're full of quirks and eccentricities that only the best memes can uncover. Good thing that's exactly what we're here to do today. So pop a Rolling Rock and let the party start.
