Gryffprefect 14 hr. ago Looks like the kitten has what is known as a fever coat. It's generally caused by its mother having illness or stress while pregnant. This should disappear and its natural fur colour should emerge within a few months with proper care. 5.3k Reply Share Temporary_Second3290 - 11 hr. ago That's so sad. 1.5k Reply Share

meatbagfleshcog. 10 hr. ago Second this, omg I wish I could just live out in the middle of nowhere and just rehabilitate animals with cuddles and chin scritches 993 Reply Share Temporary_Second 3290 10 hr. ago I wish that's all it took! Luckily not any feral cats in my neighborhood. I have not seen any in the 10 years I've lived here. Reply Share 223

mybelle_michelle · 7 hr. ago You'd be surprised. We've lived in our house in the suburbs for 30 years, saw a stray cat once or twice. Then, I set up a camera a few years ago on our patio to watch the wild bunnies I feed during the winter (started out doing it to try and stop them from eating my shrubs, then it became huge entertainment for my indoor cats).

I've caught two feral cats in the past year, and there are at least 3 or 4 more that wander across our deck in the winter. I have a heated bowl of water for all the animals, then also set out cat food for the ferals that come thru at about 1 or 2am. 133 Reply Share

Sweet Potato781 - 14 hr. ago Are you able to take him to the vet? He'll need vaccinations, medication for worming and he'll need to be neutered when he's big enough. 366 Reply Share Camilla-Taylor OP. 14 hr. ago Of course! He's our 4th cat, so we've got it down now. He's on antibiotics for his eyes and breathing.

He's still too sick to get fixed, but we're going to take care of that as soon as he's big enough and healthy. 742 Reply Share Glitter Blood 773 · 12 hr. ago Oh you're just wonderful! Thank you for being both willing and able to take in a 4th, for any amount of time.

Radiant_Racoon - 10 hr. ago My cat used to have his fur like that when he was a kitten but that didn't last long. This is him now, at 2yo!

credditthreddit - 10 hr. ago Fever coat for sure. My lil dude looked like that too. Now he's just super fat and happy. Thank you for rescuing your little guy.

CDreamer99 10 hr. ago This cat already fits you if thats you in the photo. Cats always find us Reply Share 20 Camilla-Taylor OP. 10 hr. ago Oh yes, he was most insistent and chose us. Literally showed up on our front door screaming, and walked right inside when we opened the door. Since then he's been the friendliest cat I've ever had!

Such-Mountain-6316 10 hr. ago Give that kitten all the TLC you can. I think it was screaming because it knew its mom is dead. That's the saddest thing I've heard today, but at least it found you. The CDS has had compassion on its small charge. Cuddle that baby for me! I'm sending it a heart, using that orange emoji as a kind of Avatar. 16 Reply Share

Camilla-Taylor OP. 10 hr. ago Here he is on the day he first found us, when we were still trying to figure out if we could handle a fourth cat. He's so smug, he knew he wasn't going anywhere.

One of my foster kittens had a fever coat too. I thought it was such a cool pattern until I found out what causes it. It disappeared by the time she was a few months old and she was just a regular black cat. ↑ 15 Reply Share

Temporary_Second3290 - 11 hr. ago I hope if you're able or willing, that you find the mom and bring her to a rescue. Reply Share 9 Camilla-Taylor OP. 10 hr. ago Sadly, my neighborhood is full of ferals. My neighbors feed them, but don't fix them. I've done some TNR, but it's an uphill battle. The feral cats get pretty, understandably, spicy as this is coyote territory.
