July 27, 2023 my life changed. I went out on the balcony and found two little gifts
  • 03
I've heard before that it's better to remove nests from the balcony, otherwise you'll catch some disease
  • 04
So without a moment's hesitation, I decided... I'm not going to remove it, I'm not going to alarm them. Let's see who shows up
  • 05
On June 29, I saw a mom pigeon, or daddy, for the first time. The bird was very afraid of me, so I didn't interfere them
  • 06
They changed constantly no matter the weather, never leaving their unattended.
  • 07
On August 8 we left home and when we arrived 2 days later we saw these yellow butts I had never seen baby pigeons before
  • 08
One of them was very brave, always rolling out of the nest. And one time he crawled so far out that he couldn't get back in. So I had to intervene and put him back
  • 09
That's how our friendship began. I could look at their little family for hours, they were so cute. And I started feeding Mom and Dad with some seeds.
  • 10
Slowly the chicks started to grow, opened their eyes, got big. And they pooped a lot
  • 11
I fed them every day, and after 1.5 months we even managed to get to know each other a little. They showed their attention to me, even sat on my hands.
  • 12
But time passed, they were learning to fly, and they had to say goodbye. First one flew away, and then the other. I saw them a couple more times during the month, but they joined their flock
  • 13
But even though my babies are gone, they changed me forever. I went from being skeptical of birds, especially pigeons, to realizing how kind and affectionate they are. I started to take an interest in them and watch videos about pigeons on TikTok
  • 14
So I learned that many people keep pigeons as pets and they are wonderful pets. And I made a decision, I want to get a pigeon too
  • 15
And no, the story doesn't end with me taking any of those babies in. I couldn't just take a healthy bird off the street and separate it with the flock or a mate..
  • 16
So the option was to take a young bird without a mate from someone in breeding, or take them from someone who rescued them and temporarily keep them for adoption
  • 17
So on October 4, I saw an ad that a man was selling pigeons because he was tired of them. So I adopted Coco
  • 18
She is now 10 months old and I take very good care of her. She is probably the most spoiled pigeon in the world hahaha)
  • 19
Pigeons live on the streets from 1.5 to 3 years. If lucky, up to 5. When with humans, with protection and good nutrition, they can live for 20 years and longer.
  • 20
Pigeons are wonderful pets, very intelligent and affectionate meno

Next time if you see a flock of pigeons on the street, don't think they are dirty rats. They're just kind little birds trying to survive
