AITA for calling my "boss" unprofessional?
  • 03
throwaway for obvi reasons I'm 20, I got a job at a cafe in my hometown. I had already had a job which I was stable but far. Given gas prices I couldn't keep it up anymore, so I decided to apply at the cafe.
  • 04
My "boss" hired me on the spot even though I was primarily in retail. They thought I could learn quickly so they explicitly told me to put in my two weeks.
  • 05
I was happy, this job was so convenient and I actually really liked it after a few shifts. They kept telling me how well I was doing, hyping me up saying they wanted me to be a manager. My two weeks at my other job ended today.

Two days ago I get a text from them that my were gonna be cut. When I asked why I got no response. I asked again if I still had a job and their reply was "I'm sorry, but I hired someone with more experience. So we don't need you anymore."
  • 07
I was fuming. Sobbing. I quit my job that I had been at for a while for this cafe which they knew full well. I texted back "I really don't appreciate this whatsoever given the fact that I just quit my job for this one. I'm glad you had someone better trained but this is seems extremely unprofessional."
  • 08
And "I rather quit if this is the conduct of the store that you're running." For now upset I was, I thought this was pretty reasonable. But their response really through me off- "I really don't appreciate being talked to this way. If you had responded

differently or with respect for me as your employer I would have kept you in mind or maybe found hours for you. But this response shows me I don't want you as an employee." I had done nothing wrong. At all. They had me quit my job, hyped me up for promotion, then fired me over text.

"Working for you and your bakery was something I enjoyed and was proud to support. I apologize if you find what I said was disrespectful but I have to imagine you can understand what a blow it is to get a text that I not longer work for you out of the blue. My texts are quite

understandable. Especially after quitting a stable job I had to come work for you. I do wish you the best with your business, but next time be please be more cognizant about your employees and their livelihoods. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't want to work at your business either if this is how things

would have gone anyway, so even if you actually did have hours for me- I'd decline at this point. At that point You had already let me go so I don't know why you would "try to work it out" with giving me hours.
  • 13
Again im not trying to be disrespectful to you and if you perceive this as disrespectful then I apologize but I am standing up for myself and my livelihood."
  • 14
Basically, their response was something about how they were also standing up for their livelihood but that usually people say "if anything changes, please consider me" and "thank you for the opportunity". That is all."
  • 15
I'm just thrown off at this point. It seems like they want to paint me out to be the bad guy but I don't think I was being disrespectful..
