Your fridge is your sanctuary. It's where you keep your most precious memories (leftovers) and where you plan your most ambitious visions for the future (fresh produce). The state of my fridge reflects the state of my mind. Sometimes it is full of possibility-- zucchini waiting to be sauteed, eggs ready to be fried. It's organized, it's hopeful, it's perhaps a bit too optimistic. Sometimes it's empty, only stray containers of pad thai rattling around. It's been bled dry, it's in need of a refresh. It's too busy to care.
All that said, your fridge is personal. Whenever someone comes over and happens to look in my fridge, I kind of feel like they're reading a page from my diary. Don't look too long, you might uncover my secrets. That's why this story of a landlord overstepping their duties and raiding a fridge in the process hits so close to home. Thank goodness it wasn't my fridge.
