It doesn't matter if you are new in the business or have been working for 20+ years—encountering a Karen is jarring every time. You might learn how to handle them or at least become somewhat less numb to these kinds of situations if your clientele tends to be mostly Karens, but it's still never a good time.
A professional lawn irrigation tech recently shared a Karen-customer situation he encountered when he first started his career 20+ years ago. He very literally explained exactly what he had to do in order to get the job he was being hired to do done. The Karen customer agreed and carried on with her day. He had to fix a pipe that was underground, so of course he would have to dig it up. Apparently, the Karen customer thought he could fix it using telekinesis or some other impossible thing. Because when she returned she started throwing a tantrum about him digging up her yard. Absolutely ridiculous… This professional thought he knew how to defuse situations like this, but this “broadzilla" was not taking any of his metaphorical chill pills. Angrily, he left his work only halfway done and started to leave. The Karen stormed inside and once she was gone, he realized she had just handed him the keys to her own karma. So satisfying!
