‘It was more like a 'should we kiss?' awkward': Romantic gamer flies 1,500 to meet his Minecraft girlfriend, falls in love at first sight

But for one lucky Minecraft player, he found the love of his life online as a teenager and now brags of their 8-year-long relationship that started with a goofy, sandbox, building blocks game.

    Aqnqanad OP . 1 day ago Back when we first met, she was actually really shy so we didn't voice chat that often (it was probably a month of talking before we ever called), but we texted a lot and played a lot of Minecraft (obviously lol).

    I tried to ease her into calling by just having me talk while she texted, and telling her that it was no big deal and she could unmute whenever. We played games like GTA Online, ARK survival, etc. as well. Eventually she got comfortable enough to have us be calling every night by about 6 months in.

    Aqnqanad OP. 1 day ago I don't want to sound cliché, but I was pretty much immediately drawn to her and her personality. In truth, I just liked what she built on Minecraft, but we spent the first night we met chatting for like 8 or 9 hours. We both look back on it as a mutual attraction pretty early on.

    Aqnqanad OP 10 hr. ago I've mentioned in other comments that we were not dating for 8 years straight. We were together from ages 16-18 but it was just online. We broke up once I went to college as we both just felt that we were in different parts of our lives.

    We reconnected last year in like, January? February? and we've been dating for a little under a year (April). During that time we weren't together I had several relationships (in person lol) at university.

It had been a 2 1/2 hour flight (my first time flying), and my anxiety was absolutely through the roof. I had finally landed and located my luggage and then we spent the better part of 15 minutes trying to locate each other in the airport.

    Once we finally found each other she hadn't recognized me immediately - or maybe she hadn't seen me? But I immediately saw her. When we finally hugged it was honestly one of the best feelings. We spent ten days together doing a LOT of things (**), but honestly I can say that I fell in love with her in a completely new way.

Then she came up to see me and meet my folks in January for a week. I'm going to see her again next month for a week. We're both pretty happy with our relationship and there's even some talk about moving in together after I complete my degree.

    Yes, eventually. No concrete plans as of right now due to me still having some credits left before I can get my degree. Once I have my degree and secure a job in her area we're planning on living together.

    anomnib 1 day ago I have a suspicion that these relationships end of better than traditional ones. I feel like spending a long time talking better builds a good relationship because physical contact and presence can be so intoxicating that it distracts you from foundational work in getting to know the person and assessing compatibility.

    Aqnqanad OP. 1 day ago Honestly it was nerve-racking but I was honest and upfront about myself from the get-go. I didn't really adjust my personality to make her like me and didn't hide my face or lie about my height and showered regularly.

    I find that the more authentic you are the less nervous you'll be. If they truly like you then I'm sure they'll like you just as much in person (provided you haven't lied about your appearance or something).
