That's exactly what happened to this Redditor, who worked in a body shop and had expressed to his manager over several years that he wanted the opportunity to take over for painting when his much older coworker inevitably retires. The promotion would not only result in a pay raise, but it was also far more in line with what this guy wanted to be doing at work. He gradually picked up the skills over the years and had proven himself worthy of the position. Well, when the opportunity finally came, the relatively new manager claimed he had promised the position to his buddy, whom he had just recently hired. Seriously?!
Thankfully, this guy did not have the sense to stay at this particular shop for another minute. He packed up his tools and found the same position at a much more well-managed establishment.
