I'm a body frame tech, but I really want to paint, and fill in when the painter is on vacation. There's about 4 to 5 bodymen for every painter in a body shop..

I'm lucky enough to be in a union shop, and it's been quite good for me and my family.. even as dysfunctional as I is I can still pull down some real money with my skills and 20 grand of tools I've bought over the years.

I've been waiting for my boomer painter to retire for 6 years, so I can take his place in the paint dept, and get that good money. Its hard work, but it's what I've wanted to do for 15 years. So the last 3 managers have told me I'm in..

I specifically told my manager of this when he came in 2 years ago. He said ok. Our new manager hired a second shift night painter (his buddy). Turns out our painter is retiring early, next month...

Boss says he already promised the night guy the job! SAY WHAT BRUH! I went THAT DAY to another shop and they hired me ON THE SPOT for $6 more an hour, to paint cars... what I've been waiting for. And they're in the same union!

So I went from $22hr to $28hr overnight Don't tell me I'm bourgeois... I've got 2 kids, mortgage, and bills... barely treading water.... I haven't had a vacation in 2 years and I'm about to flush my vacation time to switch careers. I'm telling my boss and putting in my 2 weeks pn Monday. Good luck finding a new body tech, mf

Lotso_Packetloss. If "burn" your vacation days means you'll lose them as unpaid, perhaps you can milk it. Tell him you want to immediately use your paid vacation days to think about your future there. Then, while being paid for "vacation", you can already be working at the other gig ... so double pay. 7.6k Share ...

lottie_02 Don't your leave days get paid out? In UK and aus if you leave any unused annual leave is paid out. 2.2k Share

Witchfinger84 Sir, if I could afford a paint job right now, I would drive my car to you and be your first customer. Congratulations on your promotion. 4.8k Share

Primary-Attorney6859. Go from 22 to 28 but don't let that be the last time you job hop. Wait a year then look to do another job. It's the only way to make it to 45+ 1.8k Share

[deleted] Make sure you take your vacation days first before putting your two weeks in. Honestly I wouldn't even bother with two weeks. 105 Share

Jihelu "Don't tell me I'm bourgeois" I don't think anyone in this subreddit is daft enough to call a guy making under 30/hr bourgeois. At least god I hope not.

Mialuvailuv. Don't give two weeks. He didn't consider you or your time when he gave his buddy the promotion that you've worked your off for- why consider him or his time?

pkinetics. Congratulations! Heck, if you old company has vacation time, give your resignation, and go on vacation.
