When the Redditor's coworker had to leave a big project in order to take care of his father, their boss asked the Redditor take the lead on the project moving forward. The original poster should have seen this as a red flag in and of itself, as his employer was essentially asking him to take on the work of an entire team. Instead, he decided to assume the responsibility but requested a raise. His boss said he would grant the raise after the project was complete. None of this was expressed in writing, which meant that the boss denied all of this when the time came for said raise.
So the employee decided to find a much better job and to leave the company high and dry since his boss made it seem like he was so replaceable.
