Shapalapa Phone calls. No matter how many times I know what to say, I still panic when people actually answer. It's probably nothing but I feel I begin and end those conversations in a forced, awkward way. Edit: I've read through everything, I promise. There's just a little distraction tonight so I can't get back to things yet. I'll get back to things! Thanks for making this my top comment. 1.8k Share

SkellyMan429. Making a joke and remembering that these people you're talking to aren't your weird friends you can make awkward jokes with and it be alright. Coworker: "My cousin is selling a house, are you interested?" Me: "Do I get your cousin too?" Coworker: "What?" Me:"What?" 1.1k Share

[deleted]. When I haven't said anything in a while, then the first word or phrase tends to be with a shaky voice or weirdly high pitched or otherwise weird. "GOOD MORNing!" 909 Share ...

lovehighmusic. I'm usually okay with normal small talk and day to day relationships, but then when someone tries to take the friendship up a bit and invite me to hangout or something I get all weird. Like oh this is getting serious what do I do? Lol I don't get it 831 Share

Honkey_Cat I fear that I am an unintentional one-upper. If I'm having a conversation and they tell me a story about something cute their kid or pet did, my brain says "Oh, that reminds me of what your kid/pet did - share that now!". I only do it as a way to relate in conversation, and to keep conversation going, but afterwards I always worry that I sounded like I was trying to one-up their story. 779 Share

[deleted] ⚫ Responding to "What's up?" or "How's it going?". I take them literally most of the time or just have no idea what to say so I just stand there dumbfoundedly. ⇧ 204 ↓ Share ...

[deleted] Remembering people's names. I've mispronounced/called people by the wrong name too many times and it's a terrible way to make a good impression. 189 Share ...

bman_152 I tend to apologize a lot.. Occasionally, someone will tell me to "stop saying sorry!".. Every single time, my response goes as follows: "Ok, sorry about that." (catching myself saying sorry) "Sorry for saying sorry" (catching myself again) "Sorry" (catching myself again) etc etc etc.. This tends to go on in a perpetual loop for like 5 minutes. 173 Share

AllisonRages Fake laughter after someone tells me the joke. I know I should laugh and be polite, but I just can't when it's something so lame. 165 Share

bluegreenbluebird Hugging. Is it going to be a side by side? With cheeks pushed together? One arm around? Both arms? Not actually a hug but you thought it was and now you are way too close to this person? 100 Share

MeetBawl Surprise interaction. A random person said "hey" on the street, so my brain decided it would say "hey what's up" and "hey, how's it going." I ended up saying "Hey wows" *look down *walk faster

Geosaurusrex My main problem that I've not already seen mentioned is that I'm not always sure what's appropriate to talk and joke about. I'm very good at opening my mouth before thinking, and thus making the room feel awkward with an ill-timed joke or accidentally inappropriate comment.
