Imagine being a teenager and having your Mom shame you for not planning an adequate 40th birthday for her… This kid was 16 years old! What exactly did she expect?
We understand that this lady wanted something special after always planning birthday extravaganzas for her spouse and kids. That being said, as she herself acknowledged, not everyone is good at planning parties. Therefore, if she felt that she was more capable of throwing her own 40th birthday celebration rather than handing the duties off to her family, that is well within her right. However, you can't have your birthday cake and eat it too, lady. You can't insist on doing things your own way and then shame your family for not being good enough. Clearly, this is the type of person who is so particular about what they like that no one wanted to take on the full responsibilities of planning this event because they didn't want to upset her. For that, she should be thanking her family for letting her plan her own party, not shaming them.
