LGBTQ couples have been around since the beginning of time, and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you something. Same-gender pairings are often found in nature (even for evolutionary reasons), so there is no reason to believe that it hasn't also happened in humans! However, we, as LGBTQ people, have been erased for most of known history. Not anymore, though! These extraordinary images of love from defiant women who countered conventions in the 19th and 20th centuries have lesbian written all over them.

Lesbians have always been at the forefront of change for our community, being the stable rock of pride and defiance, while also being the ones that move in together after the first date. These perfect portraits show a glimpse of life for our LBT sisters 100 or more years ago, and although it was not legal to do many of the things in these photographs, they knew that their love was too powerful to be erased.
