So on Monday morning we were awakened by him screaming. Not his usual, "I'm awake so you should be too," scream. This was one of pain. When I went to touch him to check on him, he started hissing. He wasn't ambulating well either. I went into panic mode and started calling vets. His regular vet is closed on Mondays. We found one that said they could squeeze him in between wellness checkups. As soon as we walked through the door they took him back because he was clearly in distress. After

examining him, they determined that he had crystals in his bladder that were blocking him from being able to void and his bladder was distended. They had to catheterize him under anesthesia and basically, run a cystoscopy. They cleared the blockage and monitored him all day. After we got home, he was still really out of it and even refused tuna water, which he usually screams for. He spent most of the next four days hiding under the bench at the foot of our bed. He finally

started coming out yesterday and finally seems like he's back to his old self. Oh! And we also gave him a bath on Wednesday because he smelled strongly of urine. He wasn't happy about it. Luckily, my dude is finally better. The vet said that if we had waited another day he could have

Afraid-Assignment229 · 10 hr. ago I'm glad he's okay. A similar thing happened to my cat last Friday. He's doing really well now! I immediately took him to the vet and he had cystitis, bacteria and sediment in the bladder.

lifewmichele25. 9 hr. ago Had a cat that had this happen 19 times in his life. None of the prescription diets worked for him. Then Royal Canin came out with urinary s/o and he never had a problem again.

slappy_mcslapenstein OP 10 hr. ago He's on a wet food diet now and we're putting chicken broth over it. He isn't happy about it though. He definitely prefers dry food. He'll still get dry food sometimes as a treat but not often. We're looking into different foods to lower his pH so he doesn't have a repeat occurrence.

marzipan1111.9 hr. ago This happened to my boy over the summer. It was horrifying, but he made it through like the trooper that he is. The Royal Canin prescription urinary food worked really well. He used to hate wet food but he loved that one, so I highly recommend it (even though it is pricey). I also added a can full of water to his plate because he won't drink water on his own, no matter how many fountains I put in this place. Here's to good health for your little one

My old boy, who is now deceased, had a seizure at 3:00am. I was panicking so much I started trembling, and it was a struggle to think clearly to try and figure what I could do to save him. It seemed endless but while scrambling for the cat carrier, I suddenly remembered that my vet's automated message includes information for a 24 hour emergency care animal hospital.

Everything worked out and he came home and lived for another year and a half, but since then I keep the free magnetic business card with the 24 hour hospital info on my fridge door where I can always see it in case I might some day need it for my current cat.

We had our suspicions and scheduled a vet visit, but he woke us up one morning by having an accident on the bed. Luckily we had caught it early enough for his circumstance to be remedied with medication and a diet change.

Beneficial-Meal-2126 · 7 hr. ago You are so very lucky you got him to the vet in time! I'm glad your baby will be ok. This happened to our family cat Sammy in February. Unfortunately, it was too late when we got him to the vet. He was too weak and too sick to survive surgery. We had to put him to sleep. And it's broke my heart. Give your baby extra hugs and kisses for me.

Colorado_Girrl · 4 hr. ago My tux boy has had crystals. It's terrifying. He thankfully made it clear something was wrong before he ended up fully blocked and with meds we got him cleared up without needing to go the catheterization route. But it was close. I'm glad yours is doing better. It's not fun when they don't feel good.
