We all know fashion is cyclical, but nobody tells you how old you feel when trends from your own era start to come back in style. Sure, us 90s and early 00s kiddos remember strutting by our moms to show off the “new” look we just invented and it was just bell-bottom jeans. But now Gen Z, the same generation who made fun of us for parting our hair to the side and wearing skinny jeans, is now claiming styles we wore to high school as their own.
The most recent painful blunder? The layered tank tops… Remember those? Some would layer the Old Navy tanks and polos, or others were more of a Hollister/Abercrombie tank tops kind of person. Some would add a big statement necklace or a pooka shell one. Maybe you're wearing your layered tank tops with rolled-up Soffes or gaucho pants. Wedge flip-flops anyone? However you styled it, the layered look was very definitively millennial.
So when a Gen Z goes on TikTok to show off her fashion “discovery” and claims it as the new spring/summer look of the season… Ooof, we are feeling hella old now. You look great, girl! But like, dang, at least give us millennials credit…
