NoQuantity7733 My boomer dad got boomered Boomer Story My dad is 68 and still works. In classic boomer fashion he has no idea what to do with himself when he isn't working.
  • 02
He is the VP of a small company in an industry that is a little behind technologically. Most of his employees have been there for 30+ years.
  • 03
He recently instituted a work from home system and bought laptops for the company in an effort to modernize. I have to give him credit as most executives are the "must come into the office everyday" type and he is really making an effort to make things better especially for his younger employees.

One boomer had a massive problem with this. You see in the office she has one large screen that she can utilize for her work, at home however they gave her two small monitors for a double monitor setup. She does not understand at all how to connect or utilize the two screens and constantly complains to my dad that "she shouldn't have to do this because she isn't IT"
  • 05
My dad told her that she is welcome to only use 1 monitor, bring her work monitor home, or purchase her own larger monitor if she has an issue navigating with two screens.
  • 06
Alternatively, she is still always welcome to come into the office like she always has. The two monitor setup is pretty standard for everyone as they are in a customer service type role where they have the chat/email open on one screen and the account open on the other.
  • 07
This wasn't good enough for her. She wants the in office IT person to come to her home an hour away to set everything up. Nobody else has had an issue. He is finally starting to understand how annoying people of his generation can be.

4me2knowit 1 day ago Weaponised incompetence. All she really needs is an in office demonstration 669 Reply Share ... Ryokurin 1 day ago I'd say looking for a built-in excuse for not getting work done while at home. If anyone comes she'll expect it for any little issue and would stop work until someone is sent again. She won't follow any walkthrough for , just send someone.

Other Commission8227 · 8 hr. ago Do not just send someone. When people weaponize their incompetence, let them suffer their own incompetence. If she won't do her job... just fire her for non-performance. It's because of Boomers that all employment is at-will.

No-Not Like That - 20 hr. ago This. My previous employer had a demonstration area that anyone who wanted to work from home had to schedule time with, to take apart/reassemble their workstation setup before being approved for remote work. Monitors. USB accessories. Power supplies. Knowing the tools you use for your job isn't "IT" just because a computer is involved, it's a bare minimum to being a functioning employee (regardless of generation).

Delicious-Day-3614 7 hr. ago Tbh this is pretty lol. Management was like "yea sure, you can work from home, after signing this document that says we trained you in basic computer troubleshooting." They can already see their employees going "my computer won't turn on, send IT (no work today! ☺)"

NoQuantity 7733 OP 1 day ago Boomer jobs are so monotonous. This lady basically takes down information from customers then fills out the proper forms for them and then sends them out. It's hard to find young people to replace them because no young person would want to do such a soul crushing job. Like she basically fills out the TPS reports meme from office space for a living.

Middle_Scratch4129 1 day ago I bet she also makes way more than anyone they would bring in to replace her. 413 Reply Share ... poopbutt42069yeehaw 1 day ago Can you imagine having such a stress free job though? You come in, take some basic info and write it down, and now you can own a house.

oldmanlook_mylife 1 day ago Boomer here. Our office closed and moved to the Midwest. I was told to work from home since I was close to retiring. I discovered that WFH was da bomb and it actually extended by career by a couple of years. (WHF wasn't the only factor TBH.)
  • 22
Now retired and discovered our new desktop didn't have a second HDMI port when I decided to add a second monitor. Not IT either but I was able to find the proper video card on Amazon and install it myself.
