Sorry Mirranda, I was just doing what you told me to do. I was just commenting in another post about HOAs and remembered this. S

Our last house was in an HOA. Our garage had our two pickups in it but my husbands mechanic truck was too long to fit in the driveway without being over the sidewalk, which was against HOA rules so he couldn't park it in the driveway. He parked it in front of the RV gate that had a gravel driveway. Well, one day we got a

violation letter for parking "on the landscaping" in front of the RV gate so I called and spoke to the HOA manager, Mirranda. She said if we wanted to park there we had to pave it. I asked her "so you're telling me that we have to pave it?" She said yes. So, we paved it.

Then we get another violation letter a couple weeks later, this one accompanied by a fine, saying we needed to get permission to pave the driveway. When I called up Miss Mirranda again I told her that we were not responsible for paying the fine nor did we need to ask for permission because her literally telling us to pave it was giving us

permission because her literally telling us to pave it was giving us permission. She tried to argue against that citing some HOA bylaws about applications and approvals and some such nonsense. I wasn't having it and told her that if she wanted people to follow the rules then she shouldn't tell people to break them. She was but ultimately dropped the whole thing because she knew she had messed up.

Inside_Major_8078 I truly hate HOAs. My only rule to my husband when we started looking for a house was that there was to be no HOA. That is what we did.

bertiebastard I'm from the UK but after reading about HOA's, I'd rather have a sewerage treatment plant as a neighbor than live in a HOA.

classyraven I'll give your HOA credit for banning vehicles from sticking out onto the sidewalk. As a wheelchair user, it drives me nuts when people block my way like that, and it happens a LOT (last time was just yesterday)!!!

[deleted] Always remember - HOAs HATE going to court. Any HOA that has a professional management company (In addition to the board, a lot have a company to handle admin tasks, and the board just votes on stuff) will avoid court like the plague. It basically costs about $10k if

a lawyer gets out of bed in the morning, and anything that goes to court is going to cost $40k, so most HOAS will avoid dragging anything. into court. Something like this, where you have documentation? Nah. Tell Miranda to spin on it.

PowerCord64 My HOA me off so I became the President of it. People didn't appreciate everyone having to play by the same rules as much as someone violating said rules. It was a no-win situation. I thrived in settling the petty by having the concerned parties sit down and actually talk about things.

Sharp_Discipline6544 This reminded me of a joke... Q: What do you call a group of Karens? A: An HOA.

Signature-Tiny My neighbor submitted the paperwork to replace our shared fence. Her documentation included the gate that accessed my backyard. The HOA approved the plans, we replaced the fence, and went halfsies. (I paid for the gate)

A year later -yes, ONE year later - i got an ooooops violation for putting up a new gate without approval. Idiots.

Stalked Like_Corn I dropped a real estate agent once because I told her "I want to see houses but don't look at HOA's. I don't want them and it's a waste of time as I'll never buy in one". So after a few months and about 10 houses she shows me this house that is - huge. Like 1700 square feet with 4 large bedrooms, a large kitchen,

large living room, and she was like "This house is $85,000". I was like II yeah! Iwant this house". She then dropped it on me "Well, now that you love it, there is a catch. I know you said no HOA's but... this one has an HOA". I told her "Then you've wasted both of our time by coming here". Grabbed my keys and left. Called her 30 minutes later and dropped

her as an agent. She tried to apologize but I told her "I was clear from the start. You took me to a house I loved with a great price, knowing I wouldn't get it. I'm going to go with another agent". HOA's in the ear hole.

Contrantier I wish she had tried and failed to sue you guys. I just love the term "unowed debt," if I'm remembering it correctly, and I believe it would apply here.
