If you ever find yourself talking to someone who is not from the US about college, they are always shocked by how much college students have to pay for tuition. Some countries in Europe have actual free universities, and here in good ol' America, people carry their student loans for literal decades.
That is why when we hear of stories in which colleges and universities take even more money from their students, without an actual valid reason, it simply makes us see red. For example, can someone explain to us why, for the love of god, students still need to buy textbooks? Have professors not heard of PDFs? Why is that still something that literal teenagers have to spend thousands of dollars on every single year?
The IT employee at a university in California was asking the same type of questions. Only they were even more annoyed at the situation because they had a view from the inside on how much colleges take from students, without ever giving back. Not wanting to stay silent throughout the injustice that was happening, the IT employee found a small but significant way to pay students back some of their money.
