The willingness of superiors to apply rules to themselves that they make for others speaks volumes to the character and quality of an organization. An undercurrent of issues surrounding fairness in leadership can give you a great indication of the toxicity of the workplace. This reaches levels of ridiculousness that can't be rationalized when it begins involving matters that aren't even specifically related to your performance or time that you spend at work and begins leaching into personal and public matters that your boss shouldn't have any say over.
Take, for example, the below situation, where this contractor, who didn't normally drive to work, parked in a space on public land that wasn't really intended for parking a car but a purpose that the space had found itself frequently used for. They thought they'd found a great solution to the normally chaotic parking situation around their workplace in Cardiff. That was until they were told by their boss that a higher-up had taken offense to them taking the parking space since the higher-up themselves normally used that spot. Going as far as to mention that their job had been threatened by the disgruntled upper manager.
In a petty, purpose-driven act of defiance, the contractor actually went and rented vehicles just to leave in the space. If we found ourselves in this situation, we probably would have called a towing company to remove the boss's improperly parked vehicle.
