'He seems to see our cat as a mother figure': Baby Possum Follows Cat Everywhere, Trying To Cuddle And Play, And Gets Adopted By Her

Honestly, we don't fully understand how cats got the reputation of being an unfriendly animal. Yes, they're a little low-energy, and they will smack you if you annoy them too much, but that doesn't mean that they don't like you or that they are not friendly. We have seen cats be friends with countless unexpected creatures. We've seen cats be friends with dogs, or cats adopt lynxes and raise them, or cats be lifelong friends with birds or cats babysitting tiny chicks while their momma is busy.

Well… maybe animals just understand cats better than we humans do. Because while we are over here, arguing whether cats are friendly creatures or not (they are), possums are choosing cats as their adoptive mommas, following them around everywhere and trying their very best to cuddle and play with them all day.

    We don't know what it is about cats, man, but everyone seems to love them. Their cuteness is irresistible to humans and animals alike. This is simply another piece of proof for that. Possums are not exactly known for being the friendliest animals, but when it comes to cats… yeah, we get it.

    And okay, fine, he really is adorable. And although we totally didn't expect to read throughout this thread that the people here would adopt the little guy, we are really glad that they did. If this cutie has chosen a cat to be its new momma, who are we to argue with it?

Poor guy must have been separated or there must have been a series of unfortunate events that led him astray or alone. Your cat is being a good surrogate. Little baby is just a couple of months old. Honestly for all we know they're moonlighting between their momma and siblings and your house ②

    LazuriKittie OP. 9 days ago Yes we haven't seen the 2 that our cat used to hang around with lately so we're assuming this little guy was theirs and our kitty took him in. Luckily they seem to get along very well though and the little guy looks healthy and happy from what we've seen!

    LazuriKittie OP. 9 days ago They're also immune to most types of venom and eat venomous snakes which is a big plus where I'm at as we get a lot of rattlers down here! And yes I've also always found them adorable lol it's always a welcome surprise to see them outside munching on the cat food and hanging out with the kitty
