Our parents are never going to totally agree with the way we choose to live our lives, there's just too much of a difference between the times we were raised in comparison to their own life experiences. Things change, as un undeniable nad indisputable fact, time marches on, and even of the most open minded of us can find ourselves behind the "now" of the world.
Of course, for those without an open mind, this is harder still. They're not particularly fond of any change to begin with, so change they don't agree with will be met with visceral rejection by their ego.
This difference between generations gets easier as we get older as long as both sides are willing to accept that things aren't always going to be seen eye to eye. But, as a teenager, it's certainly not easy constantly disagreeing with those who have the final authority over your actions when you know you at least have a point.
