Kung Fury 2 Might Actually Be Real and It Still Has Literally Everything

The first footage from Kung Fury: The Movie (aka Kung Fury 2) has leaked online, and it’s exactly as gloriously unhinged as you'd hope. We’re talking 10 minutes of pure retro insanity—a sizzle reel packed with explosions, pixelated laser fights, a sentient car called Hoff 9000, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the gun-toting President of the United States. Yes. Really.

If you never saw the original short film, stop reading and go fix that. Created by David Sandberg, Kung Fury was a 2015 viral masterpiece—a love letter to 80s action flicks, martial arts VHS tapes, and everything neon-drenched and overacted in the best way. It featured a time-traveling kung fu cop, Triceratops partner (Triceracop!), an extra villainous Hitler, Viking babes, and a hacker literally named Hackerman. It was funded through Kickstarter, launched a million memes, and became one of my all-time favorite short films ever.

The new movie, meant to expand the mayhem into a full-length feature, has been stuck in production limbo for years due to a legal mess involving its Chinese investors. But now, the leaked footage is reigniting hope—and possibly trying to pull a Deadpool-style “leak it and see what happens” move.

Director Sandberg confirmed the footage wasn’t meant to be public, but also made it clear he’s still fighting to get the film finished:

“This movie has been held hostage for the past 5 years, but I promise to keep fighting for it and make sure this film gets the chance it truly deserves.”

Please, Hollywood, do the right thing. Greenlight the Hoff-damn movie.

Because the world needs more Kung Fury. We need more Colt Magnum. We need more lightning-powered roundhouse kicks delivered straight into the face of logic. And we definitely need to see what happens when Michael Fassbender fights a robot Nazi on a flaming hovercraft shaped like a cassette tape (probably).
