Does not hand in assignments. Does not talk in class/participate in discussions. Goes home early every day. Asks to do assignments weeks/months past the due date. Hands in subpar work

mumahhh · 3 days ago I hate it when people say that the students who are gifted are bored and that's why they don't do the work. That may very well be true, but there are plenty of gifted kids who also do the work. They're the

ones who should get the first spots in gifted programs. And they're the ones that are going to rule the world because they get work done. When you consider what real life is like, most of it is drudgery and we have moments where we can shine.

firstwench OP. 3 days ago I don't even get how this kid could pull the bored card because he doesn't even try until it's far too late to try. And | I make exciting assignments! I work my behind off to make my classes interesting so these kids actually give a i, try, and want to come to school and learn

Workacct1999 · 3 days ago I have encountered a couple of very very bright kids who underperformed due to boredom in my twenty years of teaching, but it is literally only two kids. The rest use being "Gifted" as an excuse to be lazy. Most truly "Gifted" (I hate that word) kids get A's on everything without even trying.

MostGood Person · 3 days ago Sort of a similar situation. A student of mine applied for our Honors class next year. He does have an ALP, but was in my regular level class this year. This semester he finished with an F. Didn't do work, the work he did do was very obviously AI, was all around lazy.
  • 17
And of course Mom made a stink about it. "How can he have an F? Google classroom says everything was turned in?!" Yep. Turned in blank, incomplete, AI, etc.
  • 18
firstwench OP. 3 days ago This kid hasn't even bothered with the AI attempts, I'm a little shocked. I've caught a few of my lower kids trying to get away with that

MakeItAll1 3 days ago Of course they blame you. It takes the heat off them. It's so much easier. "Teacher doesn't like me so I didn't get into the gifted program." than it is to say "I didn't complete all my assignments and got low grades. It is my fault."

firstwench OP · 3 days ago I just find it hilarious. I didn't even have an option to write anything in, just give his class averages and present his "best work" which I did. His best work was a 75% math test, a social studies poster I wouldn't even

say was complete but the info he did have was good, just unfinished after 4 months, and then one writing piece that again, not great with lots of grammar/punctuation/wrong versions of their/there errors, but still his best work.

lift a finger to prove otherwise, you're just another lazy teenager with an attitude problem, not some kind of misunderstood genius.

firstwench OP. 3 days ago This is exactly the same scenario. Except mine doesn't comment on the working being beneath him, he just doesn't do it until it's a month overdue.
