Heck no, they did it so they could learn the ways of the current species that is in control and then use those ways against us when they decide it's time for them to take over.

Or maybe it's actually the hamsters that are trying to slowly but surely take over. They've got one thing going for them, and that is that no one - absolutely no one - would see it coming. And the element of surprise is impawtant like that.
