r/BoomersBeing Fools • 2 days ago MeepMeeps88 I defended my bartender from a drunk karen boomer, then was yelled at for it by a male boomer, then got free drinks for a month, and maybe got her fired from her law firm.

This happened a couple years ago around Thanksgiving, but reading these batshit crazy tales reminded of my encounter with a drunk boomer karen. It's a long story, but bear with me.

For context, I work a high stress job that involves a fair amount of direct conflict. Before that, I worked as bartender for 5 years, so my empathy is higher for those working in hospitality, especially post covid. Further my childhood wasn't great so I have some anger issues, but my awesome wife made me go to therapy. I can't thank her enough. It's helped me tremendously and I recommend it to anyone.

My local bar is a 1/4 mile from my house, so I walked over after a particularly frustrating day, and sat down for a drink to unwind. The bartender (B) and I have been friends for a few years now and I could tell he was stressed. The bar is a U shape and on the other side from where I'm sitting is this drunk karen (DK) and her sad husband(SH) in their early 60s. She is visibly intoxicated,

loud, and obnoxious. Her husband looks like this isn't the first time this has happened and has fully given up on controlling the beast. I'm checking the news on my phone and sipping my whiskey when I hear, "No! I gave CARD and if you don't you my have it YOU STOLE it!" I glance up and see

DK now standing and pointing at B menacingly. SH is still sitting with his head staring at the bar, trying to look small as possible. B is not one who deals with direct conflict well and is a really easy going, sweet guy. He says "Mam, again you gave me your business card, not your CC, and I can't charge on this, please give me another form of payment to close you out", showing her

the clipboard check presenter with the receipt and her card, still attached. The error doesn't register in her reptilian. brain what.so.ever, and the 20 or so people in there are all staring, but not doing anything. My anger is now at a 5 out of 10, but I keep quiet, assessing the situation from afar.

"HOW DARE YOU!?", she slurridly crowed. "I GAVE YOU MY CARD and YOU'RE A THIEF! A LYING THIEF AND I'M GOING TO GET YOU FIRED!! SH still hasn't looked up. B is visibly trembling as he's the only one managing the place and like I said, doesn't have a malicious bone in his body. My anger is now at an 7.5 and I'm trying to think of way to diffuse this, but my fists are starting to

clench while my blood pressure rises, remembering similar situations from my old bar days The two kitchen staff have now come out from the back to investigate the commotion, looking wide eyed. A regular patron (RP) to the right of her then tries to explain her drunken error and she berates him, loudly proclaiming B

"100% stole her card and he should be arrested." The whole bar is now quiet. That's when I lost it. Standing up on the foot rest of the bar stool, I pointed at her from across the bar and shouted, "WHO THE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE YOU STUPID ENTITLED (C U Next Tuesday)??! B HAD ALREADY TOLD

YOU 3 TIMES YOU GAVE HIM YOUR BUSINESS CARD! RP TRIED TO TELL YOU YOU GAVE BA BUSINESS CARD! WHAT THE IS WRONG WITH YOU?!! PAY YOUR TAB AND GET THE OUT!! 5 seconds of silence. All eyes are now on me. Oh well, , this deserved it. B is stunned but looks somewhat relieved. Then amazingly, DK begins to argue with

me. I cut her off mid sentence, still vitriolic. "SHUT THE ! YOU DON'T GET TO SPEAK ANYMORE! PAY YOUR TAB AND GET THE OUT! It was like all the rage that I couldn't say as a bartender came out of me. I then directed my anger at SH. YOU! WHAT THE ARE YOU DOING?! PAY THE TAB AND GET HER OUT OF HERE! HOW ARE YOU STILL HERE?! DK is rambling

drunken gibberish at me. I sit down and glare menacingly at both of them. SH finally pulls out his card, pays the tab, and physically escorts her out as she continues to yell profanities at myself, B, the bar's name, and everyone staring. I pick my phone back up and begin to finish my whiskey, still loaded with adrenaline. B

comes up to me and silently mouths "thank you", handing me a shot of some sort, while the tension in the bar starts to die down. Finally. Peace and quiet. Not 30 seconds later, I get a strong tap on my shoulder. I turn around and it's RP standing behind me. Expecting no conflict as we're familiar with each other, I say hello and ask him what's up.

"How dare you call that woman a C U next Tuesday! That was completely uncalleded for!", he aggressively states a foot from my face, huffing his chest and invading my personal space. RP is also in his mid 60s and has the look and demeanor of a good ol boy. Annnnnd I'm standing on the foot rest again, steam billowing out of my ears.

"REALLY?!!! IF YOU'RE THAT OFFENDED WHY DON'T WE STEP OUTSIDE AND CHAT?! THEN YOU CAN TELL ME HOW YOU REALLY FEEL! WHY ARE YOU BOOMERS..." B rushes overs and interjects before it escalates any further.
  • 17
"RP, he did nothing wrong and you need to stop. That woman was vile and he's the only one who got her out of here. Go back to your seat please or cash out and leave." RP looks at me incredulously, nods at B, and shuffles back to his seat. I sit back down, thank B, and apologize for exploding, saying my day was already

before all this happened. He waves it off, tells me I have a free tab til Xmas, then smiles. He walks over to the register, comes. back and hands me her business card. "Do what you want with it." She's a real estate attorney. WOW. You know where this story is going.

The next day I find the contact info of her firm's partner and email him what happened. I received no response back. However, I did check DK's linkedin page after the new year. She had stopped working at the firm in December. Karma?

Who knows, but I hope she was fired or had to resign. She deserved it wholeheartedly. B left that place a little time after and now works at another establishment a little farther away. My wife and I go and see him once a month. I still see my therapist regularly.
