Crunchy mom horrifies with refusal to get her newborn child a birth certificate: 'This + homeschooling = entire lost generation'

It can feel like there are a thousand different decisions to make in the wake of birth and new parenthood, and everybody chooses a slightly different route. Is it going to be a hospital or home birth? How are you going to feed them? How long are you going to wait until you let family visit? 

However, there are some things that pretty much every parent does. One of these is getting them a birth certificate, the first official document that you will ever receive. It's a requirement for doing a heck of a lot of important things, and for some reason, there is a minority of parents who choose not to get one for their child.

One such mom recently caught heat on Twitter after boasting that she hadn't registered the birth for her first child and would be doing the same for her second. Unsurprisingly, everybody thought this was a terrible idea—way to screw up your kid's life before it has even begun.

My uncle had many issues because he was born at his Louisiana childhood home in the early 40's. It's been an ongoing pain for him even years later with renewals & credit.

    name cannot be blank @radseed 03 Jul There's a BUNCH of these kids hitting 18 or so, posting on reddit and elsewhere for advice and legal help. Families were often fundamentalists or various cults. Absolutely screws the kids.

    Inquisitor Himbo Juan @MozarabMagi Follow in coherent countries, you do not have the option to "opt out" of a birth certificate if you are born in a hospital and there are mandates that if a doctor discovers there was a home birth and no birth certificate exists, they are obligated to make one
