'She can no longer see her': Little Sister Plays Too Roughly With Sister's Maine Coon Scaredy Cat, Cries When Told She Can't See Her Anymore, Parents Take Little Sister's Side

Bringing new pets into your family is not always the easiest thing. Sometimes, your parents will say that they hate the cat (only to fall in love with it in a few hours to a few days). Other times, your parents will refuse to spend time with the cats (not that the cats really ask for permission). Sometimes, your sibling might ask you to restrain your cat so they could avoid touching them (which- fine. Don't wat cat cuddles? Your loss). Introducing cats to the fam can go smoothly too, of course, but not always. 

And it's not always because the family members don't like cats. Some of them like cats a lot but just don't understand them, and that can lead to some problems. Which is what ended up here. We're not sure that anyone had bad intentions in this story, but a lack of understanding… that's in this story for sure.

    Alright, so this could have gone in a whole bunch of ways. We're usually not against people coming to see other people's pets… unless there is a justified reason for it, and honestly, to us, it seems that the reason here was very much justified.

    I (26F) have a beautiful Maine Coon, Athena. She is a bit of a scaredy cat, but she's the sweetest girl. My younger sister (14F) is absolutely obsessed with her.

    We get the reaction of the 14-year-old too, especially if her behavior simply came from a lack of understanding rather than malice, but you're right to separate her from the cat. Maybe it'll be a lesson for her to learn, and when she learns it, she can be with the kitty again.

    My sister constantly chases Athena and picks her up even when I tell her not to. Athena really doesn't like to be held, and I've told my sister this countless times. Every time my sister is near, Athena hisses and swats at her and runs away. I can tell she doesn't like my sister one bit, because she doesn't act this way with anyone else. She is normally a very sweet, docile cat.

    The other day, my sister came over, chased Athena around the apartment, and picked her up super aggressively against my wishes. Athena made a deep growling sound from the depths of hell, and swatted at her. My sister then dropped her on the floor. Athena ran under the bed, and has barely come out since.

    I told my sister that if she can't stop picking up my cat, she can no longer see her. This is not only for the safety of Athena, but also my sister. I don't want either one getting hurt. My sister started crying, and my parents said I am overreacting.

She has been told to leave your cat alone and she refuses. Her behavior is inappropriate and needs to stop.     My sister started crying, and my parents said I am overreacting. No you're not. You understand that a pet needs to be respected and have reasonable autonomy such as being left alone when it wants to be or not being around someone they don't like. Neither your sister nor your parents seem to understand this extremely basic concept.

He'd do the same thing, chase her throw her around, "play" rough. I didnt know he did that till he came over to my place and started doing that to her, she was screaming and trying to get away from him.
