As a writer, the thoughts never stop. Carrying many miscellaneous little notebooks, pencils, tablets, and of course, your phone to jot down any and every idea for a book, short story, or poem. Don't worry, fellow artists — I'm the same way. The best part about calling yourself a writer is telling everyone else you're a writer but never actually finishing anything you started. That's a joke (kind of). Artsy career-havers and art students in academia know what I mean.
But seriously, coming up with storylines and character arcs is usually the easy part. Evolving your idea into something tangible, well-thought-out, and good is another story. This goes for writers who do it for themselves, who do it for academia, or who do it for a career. If we love writing so much, why can't we open up the Google Doc and churn something out? The answer is quite simple, really: we don't want to until we want to. Until then, you'll find us writers staring out the window and getting introspective. Then maybe, just maybe… we'll have finished writing the prologue.
