Remember when MTV played music? How many Gen X parents have had to try and convince their kids that MTV was solely for the purpose of playing music videos–there were no reality TV shows and no straight-to-TV dramas… just music. What a concept! Occasionally a music video would substitute as an advertisement, but there weren't really any ads either. It was a time of great peace in this country. It was a simpler time.

You could have your TV on and do all of your chores to the sights and sounds of the top 40 music videos of the week without ever having to touch the remote.

You'd talk about the music videos with your friends at school, sing the best songs, and change your entire style based on one song (or in the case of the Thriller album, an entire saga of epic songs). The music then was better, and nicer, and artists could actually hold a tune. It's no wonder MTV switched to reality shows because frankly, there's hardly any good music out there anyways.
