Man Confronts SIL for Butchering His Irish Name in Baby Naming, Igniting a Family Dispute
One of the first things a parent considers after giving birth to a child is the name. A person's name influences their personality and sense of self. As a result, one would assume that a parent would choose a name for their child after thoroughly understanding its meaning.
The story that follows centers on an angry brother-in-law. Irish-born, the original poster (OP) is married to an American woman. OP's sister-in-law is expecting their first kid with her spouse. During the process of deciding on a name, they both agreed—for whatever reason—that it would be wise to give their unborn child the same name as OP, a traditional Irish name that, strangely, neither of them can pronounce correctly.
