Marvel Zombies Mode Is Repetitive and Brainless - and It’s Exactly What I Needed

The Joy of Turning Your Brain Off

Via Marvel Rivals

This mode is pure, old-school, “turn your brain off and shoot” fun - the kind of primal, stress-dissolving satisfaction that modern gaming often forgets to deliver.

It reminds me of Serious Sam co-op sessions back in the day - just you, your friends, and thousands of enemies pouring in from every direction. No reloading, no tactical crouch spam, no meticulously timed ability rotations. Just hold down the trigger and exist in the moment.

It’s gaming Zen.

And that’s not a joke. There’s something incredibly soothing about the simplicity of it. No skill trees to plan, no ranking systems to climb, no arguments about metas or DPS charts - just you and an absurd amount of zombies that need to be turned into mist.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Apparently, I’m not the only one enjoying this mindless bliss.
According to SteamDB, Marvel Rivals was averaging around 75–80K players before the mode dropped. Then, on October 23rd, that number exploded to over 120K concurrent players - and it’s stayed there ever since.

That’s not just a bump; that’s a resurrection. (Pun absolutely intended.)

Clearly, a lot of us needed something brainless and chaotic to remind us why we love games in the first place.

Nightmare Difficulty: Where It Gets Stupidly Fun

At first, Marvel Zombies feels like a warm-up - a power fantasy where you mow through hordes and slowly rank up your character. But once you hit Nightmare difficulty, that’s when things go from “pretty wild” to “who approved this insanity?”

Hundreds of thousands of zombies.
Bosses with hundreds of millions of HP.
Two at once.

It’s the kind of spectacle that makes you laugh mid-fight because it’s just so over the top. And somehow, it never stops being entertaining.

When you’re standing in a perfectly square parking lot surrounded by glowing piles of zombie goo, trying to chip away at a boss with more health than Galactus, something in your lizard brain clicks.
You’re no longer playing for XP or ranking up. You’re just… playing.

Maybe Not Every Mode Needs to Be “Smart”

There’s a trend in gaming lately - everything has to be tactical, grindable, and “designed for long-term engagement.” We’ve turned fun into a spreadsheet.

Marvel Zombies is the antidote to all that. It’s dumb, loud, repetitive, and completely unapologetic about it - and that’s exactly why it works.

It’s the gaming equivalent of junk food. You know it’s not healthy, you know it’s not “deep,” but sometimes you just need to shovel a mountain of fries into your face and feel good doing it.

A Reminder of Why We Play

So yeah, if you quit Marvel Rivals a while ago because you were tired of grinding ranked or getting obliterated by sweaty teams - now’s your time to jump back in.

Marvel Zombies is pure dopamine.
No stress, no stakes, just chaos.

It’s repetitive and brainless - and it’s everything I didn’t know I needed.
