  • Coworker steals slice of pizza that he didn't pay for, as the rest of his 5 other coworkers look at him, while they all dine at a pizza restaurant.
  • Coworker kept "forgetting" his wallet at lunch so I started tracking everything

There's this guy at work, let's call him Dan. We go to lunch together like 3-4 times a week with a group of people from our department.
  • Dan has forgotten his wallet probably 15 times in the past 2 months. Always says he'll Venmo me back.
  • Sometimes he sends like $8 three days later. Most times nothing. I'm not rich. I make $52k and live in an expensive city.
  • Can't really afford to be buying this dude lunch twice a week. Mentioned it to him a few times like hey man you still owe me for Tuesday.
  • He'd be like oh yeah my bad I'll send it right now. Then wouldn't. So I started putting everything into Moneygpt app to track my spending.
  • Asked it to show me how much I've been spending on lunch and it broke it down by date and amount.
  • That is a big chunk of change

Realized I've been covering Dan's meals constantly and the total was $186 in like 2 months.
  • Coworker reveals that he has no money in his wallet to pay back coworker for lunch.
  • Screenshot the whole thing and sent it to him on Slack with just "hey so you owe me this." He got SO mad.
  • Said I was being petty and weird and it's just lunch money why am I tracking it like that.
  • Told him if it's just lunch money then he can Venmo me $186 and we're good.
  • He paid $50 and said that's all he's paying because "some of those are probably wrong" (they're not, I literally have the transactions).
  • Now whenever we go to lunch and he reaches for his wallet and goes "oh man I think I left it at my desk" I just pull out my phone and go no worries I'll add it to the previous list, really loud in front of everyone.
  • It's almost like he never forgot his wallet in the first place!

He's started bringing his wallet every single time now. Has paid for his own lunch 8 days in a row.
  • Mission accomplished I guess. He barely talks to me now but at least I'm not funding his burrito habit anymore.
