Micromanager enforces strict tracking of team's work days, all 30 employees maliciously comply by submitting extra detailed breakdown: '[The] data is lost in a heap of unusable data'
Strict managers should always be careful when they're enforcing new policies. Chances are they have made enemies by micromanaging so much already, so if they're going to be difficult and require team members to comply with even more unnecessary rules and regulations, they just might comply… maliciously.
That's what happened with this 30-person team of consultants, who were instructed by their micromanager to submit detailed reports about their work progress every day to ensure that productivity was maintained at all times. Thankfully, the team leader (who was one rung below the micromanager on the totem pole), had a sense of humor and told his team members to enact a little petty revenge on their overly strict boss. What was ultimately submitted was a laundry list of unnecessary details about everyone's day, from office banter to bathroom breaks to how long it took them to remove their coats after arriving at the office. The important data was there too but it totally got lost in the shuffle.
