4 out of 200+ alumni who RSVP'd to 10-year high school reunion attend, attendee wonders why millennials are so against high school reunion: 'Do people think they are too good to go to their reunion?'

To attend or not to attend a high school reunion. That is the question many of us have to answer 5, 10, 20, and 25 years after we leave the hallowed halls of our 9-12th grade school. I am a lucky duck because my high school doesn't have reunions, never has, and presumably never will. That takes away any choice I'll ever have in the matter because I honestly don't know if I would attend. As a teenager, I was obsessed with Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, reveling in the idea that even if I were a loser in my 20s, I'd be more fabulous than everyone who stayed back in Texas. Now, I'm not so sure that going to a high school reunion to prove yourself as better han you were in high school is a great game plan. My opinion on this isn't all that important because it doesn't seem like millennials are attending their high school reunions at all.

    Had my 10 year reunion a few months ago. Despite having a 500+ graduating class and close to 200 people signing up on Facebook, only 4 people showed up. This includes myself, my brother, the organizer, and a friend of the organizer. I understand if you live too far but this was organized 6 months in advanced. Also the post from earlier this week really got me thinking. Do people think they are too good to go to their reunion? Did people have a bad high school experience and are just resentful? T

    Sleepy Di 21 hr. ago In old times the reunion was a way to get in touch with people you haven't seen in years. With social media we know how everyone is doing and honestly only want to see people that we actually like. We don't need high school reunions in the way older generations needed them.

It's not a surprise of who glowed up, who went bald, who has kids with who, what couple broke up etc. We already know because we're friends on Facebook. We catch up on each others lives whether we like it or not, so the reunion is less of an event.

I made a comment a couple days ago on that reunion post about how I actually want to go to mine because I wasn't popular in school, not that smart, got picked on, and basically...forgettable and average.

    But, I've since done pretty well for myself and had an interesting life. I would go mainly just to brag and look down on people that use to give me Then someone commented..."With that outlook, you seem like you still need much healing." Yup... Never in my life have I ever been so offended by something I 100% agree with.

I think social media has made this so much easier, and skipping a reunion means you don't have to worry about running into your old bullies or antagonizers. Class of '05 here lol.

    Electronic_Phone_551 20 hr. ago Class of 05 here as well.. I've never gone to a reunion and doubt I ever will. I left my hometown as soon as I could and never looked back. I'm a believer in time and seasons- people are in our life through different seasons, not everyone is meant to be in your life forever. High school was a season, a special time in my life for sure, but I don't have the desire to look back!

I was bullied, moved my senior year of high school, and I want to rub my confident/accepting self in their snobby faces ✗ But do I really want to drive seven hours, spend money on a hotel, and possibly take time off work when I can use that money on a new Lego set or yarn?

    Janeheroine 21 hr. ago I went to my 20th last year and it was so pleasant. It was super casual at a brewery in a town nearby and I'd guess 80 people or so went out of a class of 400. I didn't go to my 10th because I had a newborn at the time.
