Future forecasters ponder the jobs that will be obsolete in 10 years: 'Anything with a reliable pattern'

More than once, I've marveled at the fact that the job I do is very specific to a particular place and time in a way that means it probably won't be around forever. Memes, as we know them now, may well not be eternal, and it's fair to say that any kind of vaguely media-related career has become increasingly difficult to maintain as the 21st century marches on.

However, this isn't the only industry to undergo seismic changes that are probably going to make certain jobs obsolete, or at least very difficult to obtain in the near future. In a gloomy Reddit thread, people predicted all of the roles that are likely to disappear in the next 10 years, and the list was a long and varied one. Long story short, if a machine can probably do it then we can wave goodbye to yet another form of employee.

    DasMotorsheep I'm a translator who does voiceover scripts. That'll probably disappear, too. So far, there's too much behind it that machine translation can't do yet, but once Al lip synch animation gets to AAA movie level, a lot of my job will become obsolete. I'll be editing ai-translated scripts at best. I'm already working on creating an alternate source of income.

    Ihavebadreddit Call centre agents. You'll still have the monitors that will have to deal with major escalations. But the majority will be Al based. For the cost of the power bill in a foreign country rather than the cost of very cheap barely bilingual employees.

    Some companies have already made the switch. Poorly in many cases. With dead end auto disconnect choices that require either emailing support rather than calling or hoping you can find a solution online or through a different channel of Al support like an online text based chat system from the company website. Though many of those same companies don't have an online text based support in place either. And their staff that is available to answer emails are so immensely swamped with work orders yo

Recruiters get angry when they receive too many responses; they can't possibly parse so many resumes. Dump all of this into an Al engine, spit out 5 most likely candidates to the hiring manager; done. Also, provide notifications to job seekers to eliminate ghosting. Problem of ghosting solved!
