The thing about dogs… is that they are pawfect in every form, at every age, without any doubt. They are. And we think that, sometimes, people forget that. We focus too much on awwdrorable itty bitty puppies, because they are indeed adorable. And we talk too often about silly and energetic doggos who cannot stop running around and zooming everywhere, because it's precious, and we love it, and we appreciate every second of it. But you know who doesn't get enough love in the doggo world? Devoted and delightful senior doggos.
Today, we are here to amend that. We are here to give senior doggos the love that they deserve. We are here to remind everyone of how pawsome they are and of the fact that they deserve love and a chance at a forever home just as much as any other doggo. Senior dogs are still - because they are pawfect - full of love to give, and we are here to give some of it back to them.
"I know, my dog isn't 15 or even double digits yet. She will be 9 soon and the transition from a young energetic girl to a slightly frosted face has me so sad. I fully intend to make her finally years (however many are left) her best ones. Just looking for support, she's my first dog, a spoiled high maintenance baby, but I wouldn't trade her for anything."
"This guy had a vestibular event around Christmas and our vet said he probably had a month. Here he is in May 5 months later. He wears a diaper indoors but he makes a huge effort to get outside to go. He is so happy and loves hugs and skritches and especially treats. I love him so. He's going to be 16 or so in September or at least his 6 yr gotchaversery"
"Welp! I just foster failed. Godileah is 16, Pomeranian mix, and the biggest love bug out there with a lot of spunk and energy for being a "senior". She was in a kill shelter for a little over a month and then transferred to a no-kill shelter where we fostered her for 4 days before adopting. She is great with non-reactive dogs but takes a few minutes to speak her mind"
"In Bangkok last week I met Lilly. She lives in a hotel. She is 16, a grand old lady Basset Hound. She is also completely deaf and blind. She liked me when she got to sniffing my shoes (and therefore my Chihuahuas.) My shoes kept her happy for a couple on minutes"
"Hey, this is my baby, Zoey. She will turn 12 in August, and I've been having so many thoughts and insecurities about it. She's completely healthy aside from lower energy and the occasional ear yeast infection. She's barely grey and every time I tell a stranger her age they are shocked. It's a confidence boost when they are, cause it makes me feel like she's doing great for her age, when I'm comparing her to her younger self…"
"This is Alfred, he's completely blind and was abandoned by his former owner. He has a hard life, he was tied to a tree in a backyard for 9 years. He's 10 now. He's a big boy, 100 pounds And now plays and does Zoomies with his new brothers"
"Lu Lu the chihuahua is 15 or older, don't know her exact age and saki is 11 :) they both have made me very happy and I'm glad I'm able to give them a good home!"
