So last night, my husband had his fantasy football draft with his longtime friends who live across the country. As part of that, they always get on a zoom call for a few hours before and during the draft.

I work from home and usually work in there off of my old gaming PC (which ironically hasn't actually been used for gaming in years). But, I was done with work for the day and was leaving so I let him know the office was all his.

Apparently, during the draft, he was messing around and putting funny backgrounds behind him. The one he chose was an image of a dog pooping on the beach. Totally par for the course with him haha and I'm sure he left it there on purpose to make me laugh.

But this morning, I got an early message to get on an emergency conference call as soon as possible. Normally, I'd tell them to go if they think my themselves is getting on a call at 7am on a Saturday, but this was actually something pretty serious and pertinent to my job and more important

than that...a long time well- liked leader in the organization had passed away last night. Being kind of in shock, I ran to my office, jumped on right as everyone else gathered on and didn't really think or care to change the background and

just kind of thought "oh, that's nice" when I saw the beach. In fact, I didn't really even see the dog because I was at an angle on the screen and I was completely blocking it. Again, really sad and emotional call and wasn't particularly a

shoo off my dog (not the one pictured) because he was attempting to break in and get pets. As I'm walking to sit back down one of our directors raises his voice and says "Uhhhh Hey (my name) wanna go ahead and change that background?

That's extremely disrespectful on this call. I'm all for trying to lighten up the mood but that's not the way to it. REALLY inappropriate". As he says that, I see the dog. I've got this bad habit when I'm mortified in that I laugh

uncontrollably and that paired with the shock of seeing the dog I couldn't stop laughing as I tried to fumble through explaining why it was there to the point I just had to mute myself and my screen after saying "I'm sorry I'm sorry".

That was followed by an extremely awkward pause followed up with "Well, guess we know how she feels!" And at that point I was actually crying because I felt so awful. At the end of the call I had to do this extremely awkward

apology and explain how my husband put it there as a joke for me to see and had nothing to do with the call. Luckily, it seemed like was like 60/40 people who realized I didn't mean anything by, a few that pinged me after and said it was funny, and a handful who were

absolutely staring daggers at me. Unfortunately, one of those was my boss. I'm so embarrassed right now. TLDR: Husband was being a silly goose and put a funny picture of a dog pooping on the beach as my zoom background as a joke. Had to get on an emergency 7am conference call after a well- loved employee died last night.

Didn't see the dog until one of the directors called me out on it and I made it worse by uncontrollably laughing when trying to apologize. Edit: one thing I'll add: I literally started at this company like three weeks ago. So, I'm still trying to get to know everyone and start off right, and this definitely didn't help.
