‘You should've gotten it in writing’: Boss scams employee out of $100 after he promises to reimburse him, employee uses boss's words against him when he's needed for an urgent project

When you go out of your way to do something nice, you might think that the deed will bring you good karma. But there's no such thing here on Fail Blog—even when you didn't deserve it.

Bosses are always on a power trip in one way or another, hoping they can tell you what to do at every turn. They'll decline your PTO request, make you get coffee for them (even though you're not an intern), and belittle your additions to any conversation. We're told that this is the way the food chain works. The little guy has to get swallowed by the big guy until the little guy turns into the big guy. That was a bit confusing, but you get it. A certain degree of respect is required in any workplace, regardless of your position in your company's food chain.

The employee in this story is dealing with a power-hungry boss who "chiseled" him out of $100. The employee and original poster (OP) purchased food for fellow staff "in exchange" for free copying privileges. The copy privileges have a value of about $1000, so it seemed like a great deal. The boss approved over the phone, but weeks later, denied the exchange. His boss's words: "You should've gotten it in writing." Cue petty revenge. OP decides to promise his boss he'll work on an urgent project, but when the time comes, backs out.
