EnchantedStaarr • 8h ago I took a job that paid almost half of my original salary. 120k down to 75k. I asked my two girls (4yrs+6yrs) a simple question while standing in the toy isle of Big W. I said "Girls would you prefer to buy one of every toy you can see and take it home, Or would you like to spend more time with your father?" They said in a heart beat "they'd like to spend more time with me"

The only regret I have is that i didnt do it sooner. Even 9 years later Im still happier and even on the odd occasion I cant afford something huge for my kids, They remember their choice and all the fun we've had together over the years. They smile and have never said they made the wrong choice either.

alialiaci 8h ago • I'm doing this right now because I just need a bit of a break. I feel like I haven't had time to breath in years. So I'm switching from my normal 9-5 office job to being a bartender for like a shift a week. I decided to do that instead of not working at all because I feel like still having a little bit of structure would be good.

GladCurrency4797 • 7h ago Mental health, not worth working high stressful long days jobs. There's no balance. I rather have less money and freedom.

Evie_like_chevy . 7h ago Mental health, crazy hours, hated the job, threats of mass layoffs. I found an entry level position for a non profit I was passionate about. Took a huge pay cut. During training I got offered to apply to an opening in another department, I ended up getting that role and now make just about the same amount as my last job, except literally everything is better.

Best leap of faith I've ever done, but I would have never logically did it "on my own", I think circumstantially though I was completely desperate and now looking back I'm thankful I did.

Desperate5389 • 7h ago Mental health. My anxiety was out of control. Switching to a lower paying, lower stress job was the best decision of my life. It's been 3 years.

. Far_Independence_918 7h ago Got pregnant with my youngest. I had already had two miscarriages in that position and wasn't willing to risk that again with the stress and hours. Took a huge demotion and went to part time. After I had my daughter, I didn't want to go back to my old job. Lasted another 18 months before we both agreed for me to quit and be a SAHM. Haven't regretted it a single day, 12 years later.

. mr-pockets • 8h ago I quit my comfy office job to be a stay at home mom. I probably would've continued working there but my manager was horrible and I was so burnt out.

Drift-Wood1 • 7h ago As a general rule, I'm paying jobs following the categories of either doing something nobody else can do. Or doing something nobody else will do. When I find a high paying job, it's usually because I'm willing to do it. And those jobs like most jobs affect the way you see the world. And when all the joy is gone, it's not worth the money.

. My_Wayo_Is_Much • 6h ago Amazon, $105, awful management, crazy hours, horrible corporate culture, always calling and initiating meetings on my days off, grinding me down and headed towards a divorce. Swap to DoD Civilian $83k - everything else much better. It was a little tight at first, but with step increases and DoD wide raises currently at $125k and all is well on the home front.

    • mjsmore33 5h ago My mental health. My boss was very disrespectful towards me and it looked as though I might get fired. They claimed I wasn't doing my job, but it was quickly proven that not only was I doing all of my work, I was helping others do theirs too. I got more work done in my 25 hours than the full time employees did. They were mad that I refused

to take on more work. I left for something else making less, but now I'm make go I more than I ever would have there. And, it's been 3 years and they can't find anyone to replace me.

yeetwood_mac • 5h ago The high paying job was destroying my will to live. Wow the lower paying job was in a city with a lower cost of living, the numbers on my new contract were definitely lower.
  • 25
The good news was that the lower paying job was much more pleasant, and allowed me to stabilize myself mentally and professionally. I also have since made considerable career advances and now make considerably more than I did at the 'high-paying job'.
  • 26
Californialways • 5h ago I left the higher paying one for the lower paying one to make time for my education. I'm in graduate. school and my career will pay more. It's a sacrifice.
  • 27
Sinthyasofia • 4h ago Quit my job to protect my mental health and I wanted growth in my career which I was never going to get. Found a job that paid a few grand more but mental health continued to decline because the work was mentally taxing (I worked a crisis line for kids) quit that job and found another one paying about $10 dollars above the

minimum wage and it's a year and a half later I'm now making more than I did at the crisis line and it's because I got the career growth I was looking for originally. My mental health has also been having a lot of improvements due to the job changes and things I've been able to do in personal life because of the changes.

KiriDomo • 4h ago 우 I just quit my job to be free for a little while, but I don't foresee finding something that pays as much when I do decide to work again. The place was toxic. It's been a little over 2 weeks since I left.

ค auntiefood • 4h ago Just did this. I get to keep my work at work now. I have a better work/life balance. More emotional support from family because they are happy that I am more relaxed, happier and available. I actually feel less stressed, and better rested that i wake up before my alarm and im in a good mood not rushing and rushing everyone else around. Its nice

notevenalmostfamous • 1h ago I technically haven't done this, but I'm currently in a job that I would be willing to take a pay cut to leave I'm at a nonprofit that is supposed to be helping people with cancer and yet it is the worst place I've ever worked. the president is both micromanagey and hands off. She is verbally abusive and has fired 4?
  • 33
people since I started 6 months ago. She also won't let team members have team meetings without her approval (which she essentially won't give - I assume it is because she thinks people will talk badly about the environment and she doesn't want to lose [more] control)
  • 34
Connect-Pear-3859 • 7h ago Yes, I was offered 100k inc commission for a sales job, I had the experience but the pressure was massive, 3 months on I decided to leave having hit 95% of impossible targets. I took another job for 45k with a scaled commission and I actually achieved 132k. I then went on to start my own business.
