The closest airport to me is a smaller regional airport in a different time zone. If you fail to take this into consideration, you can miss your flight. One time I missed my flight this way and I'm waiting in line at the gate to get rebooked The boomer in front of me has evidently done the same thing. The agent points to a plane

taxiing away from the terminal and tells him, "That's your flight, sorry." Before she can explain what his options are, he loses his mind. "Tell them to bring that plane back here! You don't understand, I HAVE TO BE on that flight!!!" He doesn't chill out until she says, "Look, one more outburst and I'm calling security." She books him on the next flight. Which is at 10pm, it's like 9:30am now. He grabs his stuff and stomps off...

I'm next... great, I get to tell her the same story... "Hey, I did the same thing as that guy, but it's 100% my fault, I'm not gonna get upset. You shouldn't have to put up with that" She takes my info and prints out new boarding passes, which I assume are for the 10 pm flight. Instead she directs me to a shuttle bus which will take me to the big international airport about an hour away and boarding passes for a flight to my destination that gets me there just a couple of hours late.

She could have done the same for Mr Tantrum, but deliberately and deservedly made him wait for 12h instead.

Sensitive_Patte... Kudos to her!! Airport people have no control over the flights or the airlines. She shoulda just told the loser "Well you can run after them and they may just stop and let you on" and turned it loose on the tarmac (I know they wont let anybody unauthorized on the tarmac but the boomer sounded unhinged enough to run after them......and it would have been entertaining.)

glemits Without even addressing the insane degree of entitlement here, never mess with the gatekeeper, whether their function is literal or figurative.

petulafaerie_III Remember missing a work flight once. I didn't hear them calling for boarding; was working on some last minute work for our CEO and I just missed it. I'm obviously very upset and working through my emotions, I take a beat and say "oh I'm so sorry, please don't think this is directed at you, I am just angry with myself," and just like that she had me on a flight departing in 20 mins. Costs nothing to be kind.

ob1dylan I got bumped up to First Class on an Air France flight pretty much the same way. My seat in Coach was double booked, and when the other guy got there, he threw a fit. The flight attendant asked me to get up and let the tantrum guy take the cramped seat, then escorted me to the front of the plane where I flew across the Atlantic Ocean in comfort.

Man-o-Bronze Have a similar story... Many years ago my boss. and I were on a business trip. It was in Seattle in March, and our return trip was Seattle to Chicago to New York. When we got to the airport we were told that Chicago had weather and was closed, so we needed to make alternate arrangements. My boss.

called the company's travel agency as he was supposed to, and unsurprisingly they were no help. So we go to stand on the very, very long. line to rebook. As we're waiting my boss is getting pretty agitated, and I figure I need to handle things when we get to the counter. So, when we get there, I lean in a bit to the agent and say,

conspiratorially, "Listen, we really need to get to New York. You make that happen and there's FIVE BUCKS in it for you." And the agent laughs, as do the agents on either side of him, and I continue to joke around while they're rearranging our flights.

And when they were done, we're on a flight to Dallas and from there to New York. For the Dallas leg they even upgraded us to first class! And we got home only a couple of hours after we were supposed to. There are times I'm really glad so many people are jerks, because occasionally it pays off for those of us that aren't.
