'I wasn't "loyal" to this dealership': Car dealership employee quits on the spot after boss's firing joke goes wrong

This dude's former boss had an interesting idea of what loyalty meant. 

It's an odd query: should you shop where you work? If you work at a restaurant, would they expect you to eat their food? Or if you work at a clothing store, would your boss be offended if you showed up wearing clothes from a different store? It depends on the workplace, but it's a bit strange to force requirements like this on your employees. I mean, don't show up to your retail job wearing the competitor's clothing… but what about if you work at a car dealership and you have to purchase a vehicle? 

This person shared a story about their workplace act of malicious compliance. It seems like u/Dwardo225's boss had a mean streak in his sense of humor: he "fired" his employee as a joke.     from him. I didn't disclose the fact to anyone that i bought from a different dealer. I informed him I already bought one, so he looks at me in the most serious face and asks if I wanted to pack my things, basically because i wasnt "loyal" to this dealership.

    Knowing I already had a better job that was able to start me immediately, I said sure and turned and walked away to pack my things. He then realized I wasn't going to put up a fight, so he immediately started laughing and told me he was joking. And how they would never fire anyone for giung somewhere else. But I already knew a few people that had gotten fired for that exact reason.

    I told him I don't appreciate being fired as a joke, because first I do have a 1 1/2 year old and if I didn't have a job lined up he could have seriously hurt me financially. But I ended up leaving feeling relieved because this was not a good job.

    The funny thing is, he called me about 30-45 minutes after I left because I had left keys to multiple brand new trucks in my desk that had to have the plastic removed and get parked. Turns out since he "fired" me they made him take care of the stuff.

    Edit: there was a few good sales managers that really cared and i don't want to throw them under the bus. But the job got too tiring because of the bad ones. I hope this made sense as I am writing this when im so freakin exhausted and sick.

    alwayssummer90 This reminds me of a story I read somewhere in Reddit a few months ago about a guy that got "fired" as an April Fools joke. The person that fired him was calling him the next day asking where he was, and he was like "you fired me, remember? I'm home."

I absolutely loved the job, but the people I worked with were some of the scummiest, childish, and outright horrible people I've ever worked with.     kwflick67 Sounds like the Dealership I used to work for as a porter. I'd drive for an hour to another Dealership that sells the same make before I ever purchased from the one I used to work at. Good on you for getting a better job
