As a vegetarian gal myself, I hate being invited to dinner only for the hosts to act like me being vegetarian is the biggest inconvenience of their lives. I rather not come at all than have to sit through an entire dinner being lectured about my life choices, or worse, have to listen to countless jokes like – 'C'mon, just eat this one thing, the cow won't notice' or 'What more is there to live for other than the taste of animals?'

That is why I set a rule with anyone I ever eat with–If you don't want me to lecture you on the importance of not eating animals, don't lecture me on all the wonderful things you think I am missing out on by not eating your food.

My heart went out to the vegan woman in this Reddit story, who was invited by her mother-in-law to dinner, along with her husband, only to find out that MIL didn't prepare anything vegan, and insisted that DIL could just 'pick out' anything that wasn't vegan out of the food she did make. Thankfully, the husband took his wife's side and stood up to his mother and her actions, which led to them leaving altogether.
