Cooking everything on high: The meme defining a generation of domestic Type B personalities

Many self-identified young h*es were forced to admit that this tweet had a point, and maybe even do a little self-reflection on how they approached things in the kitchen. “Lowkey started turning the heat down after that tweet,” claimed one TikToker.

At the same time, many of them were willing to own the fact that they lacked the restraint and the skill to turn down the front right burner, and many other things besides. After all, cooking on high only distils the essence of the young h*e attitude; it doesn't explain every single facet of it. To look at it one way, it represents impatience, ignorance, and the carelessness of those who have no choice in performing the bare minimum of adult responsibilities, but they want to make it known that they don't like it. If we consider it in a more positive light, it captures the almost wholesome joie de vivre of being young and inexperienced, figuring out the necessities as they go along.

While it might be tempting to identify the young h*e as a descriptor for a certain type of Gen Z women, it shares a clear memetic predecessor in the iconic “Eat Hot Chip and Lie” copypasta. It tells us “Any female born after 1993 can't cook, all they know is McDonald's, charge they phone, be bisexual, eat hot chip and lie.” By most definitions, that includes a few of the Millennials as well. If the spread of the meme is anything to go by, the young h*e is an archetype that that resonates with many. They might do things in a hurry, but their impact isn't going away any time soon.
