Being kind of an old geezer, I grew up on the original trilogy. I saw "Return of the Jedi" in the cinema when I was 7 and was completely hooked ever since. I made my parents buy the first two movies on VHS (which I wore out from watching on repeat). I also had the illustrated books, the toys, the soundtrack on vinyl, and whatever else Star Wars I could get my hands on. So when the prequels arrived, I was already too old to enjoy them for what they are—fantasy movies for kids, just like the originals. Not to mention the Disney era sequel trilogy (which is just awful, in my opinion).
However, watching the prequels today, I can appreciate them for what they actually are—a good story told badly (as opposed to the sequels, which are a bad story told badly). The rise and fall of Anakin is an interesting story, but much like the Hobbit trilogy, it should have been told in just one movie.
